The Dementia Bus and Workshop
The Virtual Dementia Tour
What Is It?
The Virtual Dementia Tour is a powerful, immersive training experience that helps people understand what living with dementia might feel like.
Delivered as part of a three-hour workshop, the training includes a guided simulation inside a specially equipped mobile bus, followed by reflective discussion and practical tools to support carers, families, and professionals.
Originally developed by Training 2 Care for the care sector, we’re proud to partner with them to bring this transformative experience to our community, through Lighthouse Dementia Support.
Why It Matters
An incredible 97% of participants say they’ve gained a deeper understanding of what it’s like to live with dementia.
This isn’t just training—it’s empathy in action.
Who’s Using It?
Already commissioned by:
- 18+ NHS Trusts
- 4 HSE Trusts
- Care homes, police forces, prisons, ambulance services, universities, and local councils
- Over 200,000 participants each year across the UK
What People Say
“It changed how I speak to my mum. I finally understand what she’s feeling.” — Family carer, participant
“This should be mandatory for anyone working in dementia care.” — NHS nurse
Why Lighthouse Dementia Support believe in it?
At Lighthouse Dementia Support, we believe training should be rooted in empathy and lived experience. The Virtual Dementia Tour reflects our commitment to person-centred care that improves lives, not just systems.
Until now, this experience has largely been available to professionals. We’re proud to make it accessible to families, carers, and communities—bringing understanding, compassion, and support where it’s needed most.
This three-hour workshop offers a rare opportunity to step into the world of someone living with dementia—and come away with practical insights that can transform how we care, connect, and communicate.

What to expect?
The workshop
The Virtual Dementia Tour is more than just a simulation—it’s a guided journey into the lived experience of dementia.
During this three-hour workshop, you’ll take part in:
A sensory simulation inside the specially equipped mobile bus, designed to replicate the physical and cognitive challenges faced by people living with dementia.
A facilitated debrief, where trained professionals help you reflect on what you experienced, answer questions, and connect the insights to real-world care.
Practical guidance and tools to help you communicate more effectively, respond with empathy, and support loved ones with greater confidence.
You won’t just learn—you’ll feel, reflect, and leave with a renewed understanding of what compassionate care truly means.
Please note:
- Water will be available, refreshments will be available for a small donation.
- You will be asked if you haven't confirmed beforehand, if you are happy and want to join the the networking group to continue to support each other.
Have any questions, please get in touch.

Emotional Support
Emotional Support During and After the Workshop
We understand that the Virtual Dementia Tour can be a powerful and sometimes emotional experience. It’s not just training—it’s a window into the world of someone living with dementia, and that can stir deep feelings.
At Lighthouse Dementia Support, we’re here to walk alongside you:
During the workshop, our team will be present to welcome you and help create a safe, respectful space for reflection. While we’re not trained counsellors, we’re here to listen and support you informally, and the trainers will guide the experience with care and professionalism.
After the workshop, we invite you to stay connected. We offer opportunities to build a community with others who share similar experiences, and we can signpost to further resources or support services if needed.
You’re not alone in this journey. Whether you’re a family member, loved one, or simply someone seeking to understand, we’re committed to providing a compassionate environment grounded in empathy, dignity, and trust.
